Black-ish creator Kenya Barris will bring The Vince Staples Show to Netflix

A new comedy Blackish creator Kenya Barris is coming to Netflix, and we don’t know about you, but we’re pretty excited, The streaming giant announced on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, that he had commissioned a new scripted comedy series titled The Vince Staples Showloosely inspired by rapper Vince Staples’ upbringing in Long Beach, California.

If you are familiar with the work of Vince Staples, you already know that in August 2019, the rapper launched his own web series of the same name, however it should be noted that the Barris-Netflix creation is not affiliated with the web series and is a full-fledged project.

Staples, alongside Kenya Barris, Ian Edelman, Maurice Williams, Corey Smyth and Calmatic are credited as the show’s executive producers.

Recently, Barris, Edelman and Williams joined forces to produce Kid Cudi’s Netflix animated series, Entergalactic — which is set to release on the streaming giant later this month.

“I am delighted to be partnering with Netflix and Kenya Barris on The Vince Staples Show,“the rapper shared in a statement released by Netflix. “It’s something I’ve been developing for a while and I’m glad it’s coming to fruition.”

Netflix Head of Comedy Tracey Pakosta added:

“It’s our mission to work with the best artists in the world, Vince has already established himself as one of today’s most talented young musicians and we are truly thrilled to see how his sensitivity – and sense of of humor – will result in a unique comedy series.”

Does The Vince Staples Show have a release date?

With only a few days since it was announced that Netflix has ordered the new series, we don’t think you’ll be too surprised to learn that at the moment, The Vince Staples Show does not have an official release date. Currently, the show is still “in development”, which means that we still have some time to wait before the upcoming comedy finds its way to our screens.

It is likely that The Vince Staples Show could be released on Netflix in 2023 or 2024, depending on when they begin production on the series.
