Calhoun Community College arranges instant admissions before the fall semester

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama – We are one month away from schools and universities resuming for the fall semester.
Calhoun Community College is looking to speed up the admissions process with the goal of getting as many prospective students through the doors before they start in August.

“Anyone here in our community can come, arrive, apply and be accepted,” Calhoun recruiting coordinator Ashley Robison said. She explains what are called “instant admissions”.

They can do it all on the same day.

“I just introduced myself, brought my transcript and just completed my application,” said freshman Jason Locke.

Robison says the admissions, counseling and financial aid teams are all on site at all Calhoun campuses, ready to speak with any student interested in enrolling before the fall semester. Locke, 19, says the instant admission process attracted him.

“It’s nice, easy and convenient to keep everything close at hand, so you can go back and forth where you need to go and then leave,” he said.

Robison says Calhoun saw a delay in enrollments during the pandemic, with some current students also taking a year off. But she says it picks up quickly, especially within a group:

“We’ve seen a lot of people come back to school, they’re going back to school, they’re looking to change careers or get a new skill or a new job,” she said.

College admissions can be intimidating and difficult, especially for those trying to squeeze it between work or other obligations, but Robison says offering an option like this is a luxury Calhoun plans to continue. .

“The beauty of the community college and the mission of the community college is to make education accessible,” she said.

The dates and times for the next days of instant admission to the two Calhoun campuses are:

  • Saturday July 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday July 21 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, August 4, 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Saturday August 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, August 11, 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
