NEW YORK (WABC) – There is some relief for some healthcare workers nationwide as the United States shows signs that it is turning the corner on the omicron wave.

Hospital admissions fell by more than 11% last week.

New infections have also fallen by more than 32% in the past two weeks.

However, there were still more than 3.8 million new cases reported last week in the country.

Moderna Obtains Full FDA Clearance
U.S. health regulators on Monday granted full approval to Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine, a vaccine that has already been administered to tens of millions of Americans since its emergency clearance more than a year ago. The Food and Drug Administration’s action means the agency conducted the same rigorous and time-consuming review of Moderna’s vaccine as dozens of other long-established vaccines. The decision was backed by concrete evidence from the more than 200 million doses administered in the United States since the FDA cleared the vaccine in December 2020. The FDA granted full approval for Pfizer’s vaccine last August.

NYC public school isolation rules are changing
The New York Department of Education has reduced the isolation period for all staff and students in kindergarten and up to just five days, down from 10 days previously. Students can return on Day 6 as long as they haven’t had a fever for at least 24 hours and are wearing a “well-fitting” mask, which all students and staff are already required to do. The isolation period remains at 10 days for children under 5 years old.

Joe Rogan responds to Spotify protest and COVID advisories
Following Spotify’s protests launched by Neil Young against the spread of misinformation about the COVID-19 vaccine, the music streaming service said it would add content advisories ahead of podcasts discussing the virus. In a post, Spotify chief executive Daniel Ek laid out more transparent platform rules given the backlash over Young, who had his music removed from Spotify on Wednesday after the tech giant refused to get rid of episodes of “The Joe Rogan Experience”, which has been criticized for spreading false information about viruses. Rogan also responded to the fallout, saying in an Instagram video that he was only looking to have conversations on his podcast with people who have “differing opinions.”

“I’m not trying to promote misinformation, I’m not trying to be controversial,” Rogan said. “I never tried to do anything with this podcast other than just talk to people.”

Boris Johnson apologizes after report slams lockdown parties
Prime Minister Boris Johnson apologized on Monday after an investigation found Downing Street parties while Britain was in lockdown represented a ‘serious failure’ to uphold the standards expected of the government or uphold account of the sacrifices made by millions of people during the pandemic. But Johnson brushed off calls to step down over the partygate scandal, promising to reform the way his office is run and insisting he and his government can be trusted.

‘I understand and I will address it,’ he told parliament after senior civil servant Sue Gray issued interim findings on several rallies in 2020 and 2021 while the UK was under lockdown.

How many times can I reuse my N95 mask?
How many times can I reuse my N95 mask? It depends, but you should be able to use both N95s and KN95s multiple times. The US Centers of Disease Control and Prevention says healthcare workers can wear an N95 mask up to five times. But experts say how often the average person can safely wear one varies depending on how it’s used. Using the same mask to run to the grocery store, for example, is very different from wearing it all day at work.

When am I contagious if I am infected with omicron?
When am I contagious if I am infected with omicron? It’s not yet clear, but some early data suggests that people could become contagious earlier than with previous variants – possibly a day after infection. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says people with the coronavirus are most contagious in the few days before and after symptoms develop. But that window of time could happen sooner with omicron, according to some outside experts. Indeed, omicron appears to cause symptoms more quickly than previous variants – around three days after infection, on average, according to preliminary studies. Based on previous data, this means that people with omicron could start becoming contagious the day after infection.
