Entire Households Should Stay Home If A Member Contracts Covid, Sage Advisors Sure | Coronavirus

Entire households should cancel gatherings and visits to events if a single member tests positive for Covid, as the others are likely infected too, according to government science advisers.

The highly transmissible variant of Omicron spreads so rapidly that even if a single person in a tight-knit home or workgroup tests positive on a lateral flow device, there is a “significant chance that others are already infected” , warn scientists.

Based on current advice, close contacts who are double-pricked do not have to self-isolate, but are encouraged to undergo lateral flow testing for the next seven days.

The latest advice released on Saturday from the environmental modeling and behavioral science groups that feed the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) suggests that policy needs to be stepped up to help reduce the spread of the new variant.
