Microsoft African Development Center (ADC) has appointed Catherine Muraga as its new Managing Director to lead 450 full-time staff working in areas including software engineering, machine learning, data science, market research and infrastructure.
Muraga will replace Jack Ngare, who has led ADC since its inception in 2019. She has over 15 years’ experience in IT and is familiar with the IT landscape in Kenya and the region as she has worked in a variety of industries such as manufacturing, aviation and banking.
Prior to joining Microsoft, Muraga led the engineering team at Stanbic Bank Kenya and South Sudan and was a member of the bank’s executive team.
She has a BSc in computer science, went to Columbia Business School Digital Strategies for Business and was part of the Fintech program at Oxford University.
ADC recently moved to its new facility at Dunhill Towers along Waiyaki Way in March, from the Microsoft office, where it had been housed for the previous three years, Techweez reported.
The new facility will house the engineering, design, research and innovation teams, as well as the Microsoft Garage, an incubation center established as part of the continent’s ongoing efforts to scale technological innovation.
This investment in innovation centers across Africa is part of Microsoft’s ongoing plans to enable digital transformation, close infrastructure, connectivity and capacity gaps while creating lasting societal impact on the continent./Techweez (2022)
