Loudoun County community member speaks out after being arrested at school board meeting

Schools in Loudoun County, Va., Have come under fire for new transgender policy proposals and a critical racial theory program, leading to a school board meeting on Tuesday that ended in an uproar and two arrests.

Community member John Tigges was handcuffed by county police for refusing to leave the meeting and joined “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Wednesday in speaking out against what he considered constitutional injustices.

“I was in a place where freedom of speech must exist,” he said. “If you want to redress your grievances about a school board, there is no other place you can do it than at a school board meeting.”

Tigges explained that the incident took place legally on public land during a public forum where he was tasked with making comments in front of parents and community members in attendance.

“Every person there, the 500 parents, saw their First Amendment rights violated by the Loudoun County School Board and its director general,” he said.

The meeting was scheduled to take place until 7 p.m. Tuesday night, although Tigges confirmed he was arrested around 5:45 p.m. when the board closed it after hearing applause from the crowd saying “that they didn’t like “.

“There was no violence, there was no madness,” he said. “People stayed there, they started singing. And then we just cheered people on, if the school board didn’t want to hear it, we were going to hear each other.”

Tigges explained how community members began to queue to peacefully share their feelings until the meeting was “suddenly” declared an illegal gathering and police intervened, threatening to be arrested.

“Which, as far as I know, was a complete leftist diversionary tactic that was planned in advance because no one who was lined up to speak was involved in it all.”

“Freedom of speech is so high,” he said. “It is the most sacred of all our rights and it takes an incredible amount of justification to end free speech.”
