May Community Communication – Crookston Times

Superintendent Jeremy Olson Crookston School District

Greetings from Crookston Public Schools! It seems that summer is finally coming after a very long winter and a wet spring. As I write this, we still have two weeks of school left and I’m sure most kids are counting down!

Here are a few things happening at Crookston Public Schools:

Crookston High School Prom: We had a very busy prom. Students continue to be excited about large social gatherings and this prom did not disappoint. The prom committee did an incredible job of decorating the outhouses and everything was done very well. The students showed up in their formal attire and appeared to be having a good time. Thank you to all the many people who offered this great experience to our students!

NHS Induction Ceremony: On May 15, we inducted new members into the National Honor Society. This ceremony is always something I enjoy watching as it showcases the success our students have had. Seeing students recognized for their scholarship and leadership is always a proud moment. I am so proud of these students and how they have contributed to Crookston High School!

Public Referendum Meeting May 18 at 5:30 p.m.: Crookston Public Schools is holding a series of meetings on May 18, June 15, July 20 and August 3, all at 5:30 p.m. in the CHS auditorium to explain the proposal of August 9, 2022. referendum. All community members are welcome to attend and have their questions answered.

Junior High Band/Orchestra concert on May 23 at 7:30 p.m. We invite the Crookston community to attend the Junior High Band/Orchestra Concert at the CHS Auditorium. Let’s support music in our schools!

Graduation May 27 at 7:00 p.m.: Crookston High School’s graduation will be held at the CHS gymnasium on May 27 at 7:00 p.m. All members of the community are invited to attend and celebrate the class of 2022 graduates!

Principal of Crookston Secondary School: We recently made the decision to promote Mr. Matt Torgerson to the position of Principal of the Secondary School. Mr. Torgerson established deep roots in Crookston where he was a teacher and administrator. He has built strong relationships with our students and continues to look for ways to take Crookston High School to the next level. The administration team continues to be impressed with Mr. Torgerson’s growth as an administrator and he continues to have my utmost respect and support.

Position of Crookston Superintendent: I have accepted the position of Superintendent of Bemidji Public Schools and will serve in my current role until the end of June. Crookston Public Schools has been a great place to work and I especially appreciate the strong support from the Crookston School Board as well as the community. This school board has been an exceptional school board to work for because it has always provided me with a strong vision and charged me with the execution of that vision. I am grateful for the mentorship and support they gave me during my development as a leader. I am also grateful to the wonderful staff at Crookston Public Schools. We have great people working in our school system who focus not only on academic growth, but also on the personal development of our students. Crookston is very fortunate to have these wonderful people working to improve our schools.

The school board has elected to go with an acting superintendent for the next year and will begin a full search for this position in December 2022. The school board has decided to enter negotiations with Dave Kuehn who is retiring from public schools of Underwood. I am incredibly excited to work with Mr. Kuehn as he transitions to Superintendent here in Crookston. We worked together four years ago during his transition to Underwood and I can tell you without hesitation that he is an excellent leader who will do great things for the district. Dave Kuehn is an ideal choice as he has close ties to Crookston and has an established history of leadership excellence.
