Veterans Stand Down begins accepting donations from the community

SANTA MARIA, California – With the 9e The annual Santa Barbara County Veterans’ Event is just around the corner, organizers began accepting donations from the community on Wednesday.

The first of three planned community drop-offs takes place at the Santa Maria Fairpark from noon to 2 p.m.

The Veterans Stand Down is an annual event that provides homeless and at-risk veterans with hot food, access to services, clothing and hygiene items.

Over the years, community members have helped provide many items that are donated to veterans.

This year, the organizers are again asking people to help by donating towels, blankets, toothbrushes, toothpaste, men’s and women’s t-shirts, underwear, shoes, baby diapers. , small shampoo, bar soap and hangers.

All donated clothing must be new and unused.

In addition to Wednesday’s drop-off event, more are scheduled for October 6 and 13.

The Veterans Stand Down is scheduled for Saturday, October 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Santa Maria Fairpark.

Applications for Veterans who wish to participate in the Stand Down are available on the Santa Barbara County Veterans Stand Down website: or by calling the office of Supervisor Steve Lavagnino at (805) 346-8402.

There is no charge for Veterans and their families attending Stand Down.

This marks the return of the event after last year’s Stand Down was canceled due to COVID-19.
